I've moved on...
...to a different domain. Why, what were you thinking? The truth is, I just woke up one day and decided it's time for a change—a metamorphosis, if you will; or, in layman's terms, if Britney can shave her head, then maybe so can I? Nevertheless, it's been a rather handsome 10 years of talking to you, and thank you for putting up with all my moodswings and terrible dad jokes. Fear not! The hormonal imbalance and jokes are more terrible on CUBICLE, see you there.

Sleeveless Trench – YesStyle, Floral Shirt – Motel Rocks, Dress – 18 AND EAST, Watch – ASOS

GHD Courtesy of ASOS; Photos shot in Hurwundeki

The pimple-ridden teenager that slams the door and plays on a ducktaped guitar the entire summer, would be my atopic (eczema) skin; and the neat kid that does his homework and keeps his allowance in a tin can for a bicycle, would be my hair. So now you understand the reason there are only two hairstyles in this blog, and hopefully also the reason I don’t own a blow dryer or a hairspray. But I do have a drawer-full of steroid creams, collected from literally every country I’ve been itchy in. Do any of you own medicine from Lithuania or Turkey, BECAUSE I DO. I’ve been more than content letting my hair run free, and since straightening is really the extent of pimping it I thought I’d share my choice of straightener and method. So far I’ve been happiest with the classic GHD Flat iron… and hey I just realised it’s probably a great tool for whacking the pimple boy at times but that’d be inappropriate so scratch that. I shall rule with a proverbial iron fist in velvet glove. Or with GHD in satin sleeve… dilemma.

All that’s needed is a good brushing throughout, then a even spritz of heat-protection spray (mine’s from Trevor Sorbie) before any contact with the iron. Using a brush, sweep a chunk of hair to the side and clip, then start straightening in sections from the underneath to avoid placing finished hair on top of unfinished hair. Works best if you lead the section of hair with a brush and follow with the straightener.

Thank you Flora for helping with the photos, and Hurwundeki for the location!

  1. Other than your beautiful hair, that is one quirky place. Didn’t you have a haircut there once? Something to do with your fringe / bangs?

  2. Ah yes! This one’s actually the cafe, http:parkandcube.com/hurwantdeki-cafe/ but he did have a hair salon! So sad that it’s closed though :(

  3. Wow such awesome photos! Love the second one especially! Pin straight hair suits you very well btw :D
    Xoxo Diana

  4. Are those highlights/lowlights in ur hair? Adore the subtle brown tinge on random strands of hair

  5. Hmm nooope that’s just my retarded hair, I’ve never dyed it or anything, I’d say it’s just the sun and random white hair in the middle! MAYBE I’M DYING :S

  6. @Shini, Hahaha ur not dying!! Love the natural color :)))

  7. Again, completely blown away at the beauty in the photos. So meaningful in each one! Also you hair looks lovely, I don’t know that I have ever been able to achieve such sleek hair.. Perhaps I need to upgrade to the GHD? :o

  8. Wow, the photoshoot location is really amazing, love love love it! and your hair is so immaculately lovely:)

  9. Mara

Great outfit!^-^ love that floral print shirt is so pretty!!! your hair is lovely

  10. Such a lovely glimpse into your hair routine. That floral top is remarkable. And yourinternational steroid cream collection amused me :)

  11. These photographs are so soft and beautiful! Have you ever thought about getting magic straight? It’s my favorite thing to do to my hair while visiting Asia–never have to straighten again!

  12. Naah my hair is actually naturally straight like this, I only have waves because of a perm I had over a year ago, the constant straightness bores me…! I do need a coating though..

  13. Sorry to disappoint you, but yeah, I do own medicine from Lithuania. Well, basically because I live here.
I’ve always admired your hair, it’s always pretty and shiny. Good genes, I guess :)

  14. your hair is a dream! (also love flora’s photos!)

  15. The blur of your photos is so enchanting. They are soft and relaxing.

  22. Really enjoyed reading this post

  23. the picture with the flower petals in your hair is so pretty

  24. Yin Pang

Lovely, your hair is beautiful! Can I just ask you where you blouse underneath the coat vest thingy is from? I adore it.

  25. Your hair look so naturally straight I would never thought you’d have to help it out by straightening it with an iron. Looks good!

  26. Haha I actually straightened my hair a bit before the shoot because I couldn’t imagine straightening my hair in a cafe…. if you see my hair in the previous post, that’s how it is naturally!

  27. Love your hair :)

  28. BUT

Your hair IS straight already, no?
    It looks superstraight!

Beautiful pictures of a beautiful you!

  29. Oopsy, I actually had to straighten it before taking everything to shoot at the cafe because it’d be so weird straightening my hair in a cafe…. if you see my hair in the previous post, that’s how it is naturally!

  30. Wow..had noo idea you straightened your hair…it actually seemed soo virgin hahaah…. Those are different shades on your hair rite?! Perfect.
‘and the neat kid that does his homework and keeps his allowance in a tin can for a bicycle, would be my hair’ lol ……I love how you characterize everything :)

  31. I spent about 3 months worth of allowance on some GHDs when I was about 14… and I still have them! They are fab and the longest lasting still powerful straightener I have ever owned (before that I had a Remington set and it was crap!). I love curling and straightening with one tool – definitely a good value buy!
However now my hair is as short as Amelie so I have no need for it….

  32. Oh wow your hair is SO long! Beautiful.

I would literally die without my GHD classic styler (coupled with Frizz Ease as unfortunately I don’t have naturally sleek Asian hair!).

  33. Shinipoo you have a Repunzal hair, sell it to Victoria Beckham for ££££££.

So sad to hear the salon’s closure I love that atmosphere and the nostalgic decor, they should have the salon in the backroom or something.

  34. Beautiful shots!

  35. i personally love straight hair. mine is japanese straightened so it looks pin straight at all times and wouldn’t trade it for anything. it’s a great look on you too :D
    xx, http://wordbyjessie.com/

  36. Shini I didn’t visit your blog for a month when I was away in Paris. Only when I read it now do I realize how much I miss it.

Love your stonewashed skirt & flowers in your beautiful hair. Jealous that you have so much hair – share some with me!

  37. Love the whole setting and your outfit is so nice, really love that floral/patterned shirt you’re wearing. You look great! xx

  38. beautiful photos with the hair.
also the last 2 are cool.

  39. esikazemese

Am.. why do you straighten a straight hair?? You dry it out and ruin it with no reason.
I have eczema too, but barely, i got cream from mexico hahaha but i got loads of bandage stuff from all over the world, and I’ve been hospitalized in a couple. Not proud of it.

  40. Nah, I actually straightened my hair before the shoot because I couldn’t imagine straightening my hair in a cafe…. if you see my hair in the previous post, that’s how slightly wavy it is!

  41. Your hair is so pretty! I wish my hair was as well behaved as yours!

So – your watch. I just got it in the mail today, and let me tell you how hard it was to get it. I first saw it on one of your blog posts months ago and completely fell in love with it. I tried to order it on ASOS and as I was confirming my order it sold out!!! Someone nabbed the last one within milliseconds of me buying it. I emailed ASOS and asked them if they would get more in stock and they said no, but if someone returned it in new condition they would put it back on the site, but that that never happens EVER (they said). Then, 2 months later I randomly saw it on the site again and I didn’t hesitate and ordered it. It was the only one they had!
Whew. I can’t believe I just wrote that much about a watch. This is just to show all the crazy online shoppers out there that if you love something, freaking buy it, because it’ll be gone. The end

  51. Emma

Damnit, now I want a GHD!

  52. Ahh Shini, you make my boring days at work interesting.
the photos are amazzzee – as usual! Especially the second shot.

  56. haha what a strange coincidence! i also do practically nothing to my hair and own very few hair products…but i also have a very wide range steroid creams because i also have eczema (unfortunately). bane of my life.

  67. lol. Just don’t whack too hard ;)

  68. Everything is beautiful about this, not just your hair but the photos, the location EVERYTHING. I’m in love.

  69. What camera do you use?

I’m thinking of getting my first DSLR but would like some advice..

  70. I use Canon 5D Mark II, but that’s a professional camera – if you’re thinking of getting your first DSLR, you should definitely look into Canon 600D, or 550D!
My first DSLR was a 400D, I’d say it was the perfect place to start. I do suggest maybe getting a secondhand body and a good lens, something like Sigma 30mm f1.4 would be a perfect fit.

  71. I also have very well behaved hair, so I can relate to you! Your floral shirt is lovely.

  72. Shiniii I saw you in Vapiano the other day! Haha small world.
I love your hair, it looks so great and healthy either way. And the photos are ohh so perfect. xx

  73. I just lóve your look.
Your blog is amazing. You’re having such an amazing sense of style!
I would love to kidnap your wardrobe for a week, a month, a year, or maybe just forever. :D

  79. that fourth photograph in particular is exquisite — love how you can see the spray lingering in the air.

am jealous your hair ‘naturally bleaches’ itself! my cousin’s hair is like that, and i’m quite jealous! i unfortunately have to turn to palty to lighten my hair …

  80. I love your hair! It’s amazing
