I've moved on...
...to a different domain. Why, what were you thinking? The truth is, I just woke up one day and decided it's time for a change—a metamorphosis, if you will; or, in layman's terms, if Britney can shave her head, then maybe so can I? Nevertheless, it's been a rather handsome 10 years of talking to you, and thank you for putting up with all my moodswings and terrible dad jokes. Fear not! The hormonal imbalance and jokes are more terrible on CUBICLE, see you there.

Lucky Chip, Sebright Arms pub, London

Jen, Charlie and Kit – burger buddies

Lucky Chip at the Sebright Arms, 31-35 Coate Street, E2 9AG; Slider Bar, 8 Broadwick Street, Soho, W1F 8HN

I am insane. I really don’t know where I’m getting this sudden burst of posting energy, but I’m quite certain it’s not the brick of chocolate I just ate. Or the extra few reindeers from our advent calendar. (Bought about a week into December so we can eat seven days in one go. See? Strategy.) The fact is, a few hours ago I returned dog-tired from six back-to-back foodie shoots, and instead of hugging the floor and letting dustmites crawl in my mouth for dinner, decided it was a good idea to fish out some burger pictures to show you. Lucky Chip (also can be found as Slider Bar in Soho) do the, I kid-you-not, best burgers in town, and this is coming from…me. I don’t see a more credible source; if you are what you eat, would I not be a bacon cheeseburger? or Pho? And when I say ‘best’, it’s not the type of ‘best’ fashion bloggers throw around casually, where every single new bag is the BEST. The meat-condiment ratio on these burgers is so optimal, even those with stomachs the size of a fist (Kit) have no troubles finishing them, plus a few hand-cut chilli fries on top. Ironically – those following my rants on Twitter will know – a few days ago I declared I was giving up on wheat, eggs and dairy as a part of an elimination diet to get to the bottom of my eczema. I wept as I put this post together. All because I love you… and also because I crave for burgers, scrambled eggs, and latté’s but now all I can do is sob really loudly until our neighbours call the police and then my husband gets arrested.

Looks so delicious, will give it a try!! Thanks for sharing! :-)

  2. I like burgers, but I always feel ever so slightly sick afterwards. Hence my joy when I whipped up a veggie burger yesterday, which not only tastes great, it doesn’t make me feel sick either.

Eczema – I literally feel your pain. At the moment I am off apples, oranges, pineapples and all those other fun fruits – which I hate. What do I snack on now? At the end of the day I am trying to cure it with hydrocortisone on my hands, patience on my eyelids. I am also drinking homemade kefir – which some people claim can help with food allergies. Who knows? My nails are harder, I was nearly delhi-belly resistant in India and didn’t have a cold since I drink it. Maybe it will cure my food-allergies.

  3. Amazing photos, this place looks divine!!! YUM!

  4. beautiful captures!

  5. You are hilarious. I guffawed out loud, and now my neighbours probably think I’m a lunatic. WORTH IT.

  6. i understand that crave too! but, that place serves some seriously good looking food!

  7. I’m not much of a burger lover, but the photos are awesome. Hope you cure your eczema soon, so you can enjoy them again <3

  8. Lovely photos!

  9. Sarah

Shini, you are FUNNY, and it’s MUCH appreciated. Thank you. :)

  10. I commiserate with your cravings! I gave up sugar/dairy/gluten for 8 weeks for a similar purpose (and spent the first two weeks as a raging b****). Found out I’m allergic to dairy and that I probably should severely limit my sugar. I have eczema too and my skin hasn’t much improved (probably because I started eating dairy/sugar again “just for Thanksgiving” and then…kept eating it). Good luck, Shini!

  11. What a great post. Lovely photos as usual. Staged-yet-not vibe. And those burgers look fuggin bombtastic. Can never deny a good burger…yum!

  12. These look TOO good.

So good in-fact, I positively want to wallow in self-pity because I do not have, nor can I currently get my hands on one.

Boo. I’ll keep the tip for future reference.

ps. Great post, I love the way you write.

  13. It looks delicious!

  14. You can still eat chips though right? Just not the cheese on top… How are you handling your foodie job?

Awh, I miss hanging out when Jen’s in town, ritual scoffing and all!

  15. I’m moving to a new flat just down the road from this joint! I am suddenly fearing for my waist line …

ps goodluck on getting to the root of your eczema, dairy has alays been the culprit for me, which is a shame, because if you are what you eat, I’d be cheese.

  16. This place looks so nice, the foot looks delicious!!!!

  17. aya

aww, really adore their burgers, bf lives next door and indulge my self way too often!

  18. Well now you’ve made me feel bad, because I realized that if I were what I ate I’d be chocolate, and that makes me feel like I’m kind of a cliché. :(

  19. Seraphina

So sorry to hear about your eczema! :( Those burgers look too good to not indulge in…

  20. do you know the meat liquor near oxford circus? it’s very rough but amazingly delicious! xx Allegra

  21. I tried changing my diet because of eczema. Nothing worked. I came off the pill for a different reason and have never had eczema since!

  22. haha. i want to lick my screen this food looks so delicious.

  23. O my god, those chips look absolutely deeeelish….

  24. Ok, I really need to try Lucky Chip sooner rather than later (also, your photos are so good that this post is now making me salivate too and chocolate is not helping).

    Thank you for sharing!

  25. Oh man, burgers! It’s such a trend at the moment with regards to the London scene…I totally need to test out some of these places. I also HEAR YOU when it comes to Advent – I did the same thing and ate about 5 when I came home from work today. My teeth hurt a little now haha.

Also sucks about your Eczema, my sister has had it since she was really little and she can’t touch much seafood without her neck getting pink and sore – also being around cats/dogs seems to flare it up a little bit too!

  26. oh jeez….burgers and fries will be the death of me. why are they so good?

  27. Nothing quite hits the spot like a good burger does. Or in this case, the BEST burger. I shall try this place out when I head to London someday.

I should probably try and do as you do though: eliminate wheat, eggs, and dairy. I have a mild form of eczema (although I’m pretty sure it’s not as mild as it feels like when the burning starts — oops, is that TMI?) so I guess I’ll weep with you on this.

    Now I want a burger.

  28. Yummy!

  29. a little off topic, a whole-food plant diet really might help you with your eczema. rice/soy/oat milk lattes and bean/seitan/tofu burgers are delicious as fuck if you make them right!

  30. So I’ve heard! I guess the next step is to find great burger places that won’t give me a stink-eye if I asked for a tofu burger… which is surprisingly still quite rare in the UK!

  31. Those burgers look so delicious. Your food pix always make me want to pull things out of my computer screen. I swear. :)

  32. Jessica

Shini, you never fail at sarcasm. Always with witty posts and quality photos! Much love!

  33. Only you can make messy comfort food look worthy of sophisticated people. Also I’d really like to know: how cold is it in London right now? That girl’s tank top is throwing me off.

  34. I like your strategy re:advent calendar, mine was consumed on day of purchase :/ I tell myself every year I’m gonna have more control *sighs* I am now craving burgers, sadly I am nowhere near any decent burger place, kfc will have to suffice

  35. omg looks soooo good
