Michelle and I met during our starry-eyed innocent, hope-filled CSM Foundation Degree days in 2006, when photoshop was still plan B* and makeup bags only contained pencils and markers. I was foolishly consulting Cosmopolitan magazine then for fashion, but Michelle was cool from the beginning. Straight in from Indonesia, she rocked a shag-cut and a tiny tattoo of an airplane on her foot. We ran off in different directions ever since our BA degrees started, and only recently I realised we’d been in the same building for 3 years and never crossed paths. So I made it my business to pay her a visit at the school studio when she got in touch about the Jewellery Pop-Up Shop, which everyone needs to go to before it closes at the end of the day on Monday. Her current collection is inspired by genetic mutations, as she illustrates the metamorphosis of a simple ring through several stages of evolution. The studio atmosphere was also amazing – if BA Graphic Design had studios like this I believe we would’ve actually gone home with an education… I’m kidding.
